On the morning of July 1, 2015, law enforcement officials in North St. Louis County, Missouri, were summoned to a residence in the 9800 block of Green Valley Drive following reports of a shooting. Upon arriving at the scene, officers discovered the lifeless body of 34-year-old Luther Finch, a Black male, lying in the front yard of the property. The initial examination revealed that he had sustained a fatal gunshot wound to the chest, and he was pronounced dead at the scene by emergency
responders.
Detectives with the St. Louis County Police Department immediately launched a homicide investigation to piece together the events leading up to the violence. In the immediate aftermath of the discovery, police took a woman into custody for questioning regarding her potential involvement or knowledge of the incident. Investigators also canvassed the neighborhood, interviewing potential witnesses to gather more information about the circumstances surrounding the shooting.
Despite the early detention of the female subject, authorities did not file charges against her at that time, and she was released pending further investigation. The case presented challenges for detectives, and public updates regarding subsequent arrests or the identification of additional suspects remained scarce in the years following the event. The investigation into the death remained open as police continued to seek leads to bring closure to the matter.
