On the afternoon of Saturday, February 4, 2023, a violent dispute between siblings turned fatal in the Carondelet neighborhood of St. Louis, Missouri. Kenneth James Evans, a 37-year-old male, became the victim of a shooting following a heated argument with his younger brother, Brad Anthony Evans. The confrontation began inside Kenneth’s apartment on the 100 block of Bellerive Boulevard, where the two men were reportedly arguing over a firearm they had jointly purchased, as well as a woman
Kenneth had been dating. The situation escalated when both men left the residence and entered their respective vehicles parked nearby.
As the brothers attempted to drive away, the dispute continued on the road near the intersection of South Broadway and Bates Street. Brad Evans, then 33 years old, attempted to leave the area, but Kenneth maneuvered his vehicle to block his brother's path. In response to being blocked, Brad fired a pistol through the window of Kenneth’s car, striking him twice in the chest. Following the gunfire, Kenneth lost consciousness behind the wheel and crashed his Pontiac Grand Prix into another vehicle. Emergency medical personnel arrived at the scene but were unable to save him, and Kenneth Evans was pronounced dead at the location.
Law enforcement officers from the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department responded to the crash and shooting, quickly identifying Brad Evans as the primary suspect. Upon his arrest, Brad admitted to police that he had engaged in an argument with his brother and fired his weapon during the encounter. He was initially taken into custody and held without bond.
The legal proceedings against Brad Evans concluded over a year later. Originally facing charges of second-degree murder and armed criminal action, the charges were amended as part of a plea agreement. On April 12, 2024, Brad Evans appeared in court and pleaded guilty to voluntary manslaughter. St. Louis Circuit Attorney Gabe Gore described the incident as a momentary outburst of anger that resulted in a senseless death. Consequently, a judge sentenced Brad Evans to serve ten years in the Missouri Department of Corrections for the killing of his brother.
