In the quiet community of Cadillac, Michigan, the life of 60-year-old Stephen William Billett, a White male, was tragically cut short on January 2, 2026. His death, which occurred during a violent home invasion and robbery at his residence on East 28th Road, set off a chain of events that would end with another fatality.
Later that same day, a Cadillac Police Department officer on the lookout for a vehicle stolen during the home invasion spotted the car and initiated a traffic stop on
Laurel Street. The male driver of the stolen vehicle, suspected of having a role in the earlier homicide, produced a handgun and pointed it at the officer. In response, the officer drew their firearm and shot the man. The suspect was transported to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead.
A female passenger in the vehicle was unharmed and taken into custody as part of the ongoing investigation.
