Annetreuna Mésa Paul-Bowden, a 17-year-old Black female, tragically lost her life to gun violence in the early morning hours of May 27, 2021, in Kansas City, Missouri. Officers responded to the sound of gunshots around 12:45 a.m. at an apartment building located on East 42nd Street, near Pittman Road. There, in a common area between apartments, they discovered Annetreuna, who had been shot.
She was pronounced dead at the scene.
Known affectionately by nicknames such as 'Treuna' and 'NaNu,' she was remembered as a vibrant and creative soul with a deep compassion for people and animals. Talented in many areas, she was a singer, songwriter, and clothing designer. Despite facing numerous challenges in her young life, she remained resilient and ambitious, having completed her high school requirements at the age of 16.
The investigation into Annetreuna's homicide remains ongoing. Detectives and crime scene personnel have canvassed the area for witnesses and evidence, but so far, no arrests have been made, and authorities have not released any information about a suspect or suspects. Her family and community have held vigils in her memory, seeking to keep her case in the public eye and appealing for anyone with information to come forward. They continue to hope for justice and closure in the unsolved case.
