In August 2023, authorities in the St. Louis metropolitan area launched a homicide investigation following the discovery of a deceased male in East St. Louis. The victim, identified as 64-year-old Anthony Jackson, was found on August 12 in a vacant lot located in the 1700 block of Ridge Avenue. He had suffered multiple gunshot wounds.
