Lynn Verl Simmons, a 25-year-old man, went missing on September 4, 1940, while working as part of a geological survey team in the Uinta Mountains of Utah. Simmons and three colleagues were conducting fieldwork on Lamotte Peak when a sudden snowstorm hit. The team decided to head back to their camp, but Simmons lagged behind as they descended the mountain. His colleagues last saw him as he waved to them from a ridge, but he never rejoined the group.
