On July 28, 2020, 51-year-old Melanie Payne was found dead from a gunshot wound at a residence on Cave Branch Road in Elkmont, Alabama. Authorities identified the suspect as 21-year-old Samuel Quentin Hoback, who was arrested later that morning after being spotted by a deputy on Robinson Hollow Road.
