Background
Anna Hlatky was a 36‑year‑old resident of Monessen, Pennsylvania. Born circa 1893 in Pennsylvania, she faced intense pressure within her marriage. Her husband reportedly threatened her with death if she bore more children, which led to a series of tragic events in 1927 and 1928 .The Crimes
In two separate incidents, Anna delivered twins at home and intentionally killed them shortly after birth:- July 1927: Gave birth to twins at home; she smothered them under a bedcover, wrapped them in old sweaters, and buried them in the backyard with her daughter's help .
- August 11, 1928: Gave birth again to twins; once more, she smothered the infants and buried the bodies in the chicken yard at the rear of her home .
