On the evening of April 12, 2022, Alfred Brown, a 44-year-old man, was shot and killed in his vehicle outside of a Family Dollar store in the area of 39th and Indiana in Kansas City, Missouri. The events leading up to the fatal shooting began when a man entered the store and used an ATM to withdraw cash. He then proceeded to Alfred Brown's car, which was parked outside.
Witnesses at the scene reported hearing the sound of gunfire shortly after the man entered Brown's vehicle.
The man was then seen leaving the car. When police arrived, they discovered Alfred Brown inside the vehicle, having sustained fatal gunshot wounds.
The investigation into the homicide led police to identify 23-year-old Lionel L. Bolton as a suspect. Detectives were able to confirm that a card associated with Bolton was used at the ATM inside the Family Dollar store moments before the shooting. In addition, phone records placed Bolton's phone at the location of the homicide at the time of the incident.
Following the investigation, the Jackson County Prosecutor's Office charged Lionel L. Bolton with Murder in the Second Degree, Unlawful Use of a Weapon, and two counts of Armed Criminal Action. Prosecutors requested a bond of $250,000 cash.
