On December 29, 2023, 31-year-old Gerardo Raul Acuna-Jimenez, known to many as "Jerry," was fatally shot near the intersection of Lyon Avenue and Hardesty Avenue in Kansas City's Historic Northeast neighborhood. Officers responded to reports of gunfire shortly after 7:30 p.m. and discovered Acuna-Jimenez unresponsive beside a vehicle. Emergency medical services pronounced him dead at the scene.
