The life of Harold Brown, a 43-year-old Black male, was cut short on October 21, 2024, in this act of violence. The shooting happened just after 3 a.m. near the intersection of Roberts Street and Bales Avenue, turning a city street into a crime scene.
First responders who arrived at the scene discovered
a man with gunshot wounds. He was transported to a local hospital with injuries that were not considered life-threatening. A short time later, Harold Brown arrived at a different hospital in a private vehicle, also suffering from gunshot wounds. Despite medical efforts, he was pronounced deceased.
The Kansas City Police Department is investigating the shooting as a homicide.
