In the late hours of a Tuesday night in St. Louis, the sound of gunfire shattered the relative quiet of a park area near the Soldier's Memorial Museum and City Hall. It was around 11:30 p.m. on May 10, 2022, when officers from the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department were dispatched to the 1300 block of Market Street in the Downtown West neighborhood following a call for shots fired.
Upon their arrival, they discovered a young man suffering from a gunshot wound.
He was identified as 20-year-old Tariq Redden of Florissant, Missouri. Initially, there was a glimmer of hope as the first responders found him still breathing. However, his injury was too severe, and he was pronounced dead at the scene. Redden was a male.
In the immediate aftermath of the shooting, the area was cordoned off. Investigators set up crime scene curtains in Memorial Plaza, near a stone monument, and spent the night meticulously searching the surrounding grounds for any evidence that might lead them to who was responsible for Redden's death. Their search for clues even extended into the nearby museum. Despite their efforts and a public appeal for information, police did not have any suspect information in the days following the incident. To date, there have been no publicly announced arrests or suspects identified in the killing of Tariq Redden.
