In a tragic turn of events on a Thursday evening in Kansas City, Missouri, a dispute over money led to the fatal shooting of Leslie Wardell Taylor. The 57-year-old man was in Blue Hills Park on August 18, 2022, when the altercation escalated, ending his life. Responding to reports of a shooting near 53rd Street and Brooklyn Avenue, police discovered Taylor suffering from a gunshot wound.
Despite the life-saving efforts of the officers, he was pronounced dead at the scene.
Witnesses at the park told investigators they saw Taylor arguing with another man just before the sound of gunfire. The suspect, later identified as 59-year-old Timothy Green, was known to have been in a disagreement with Taylor. Following the incident, Green reportedly left the park. Police located him at his residence where they observed what appeared to be bloodstains on his clothing. During questioning, Green claimed that Taylor had been harassing him for weeks. However, witnesses maintained that Taylor was not known to carry a gun.
Based on the evidence and witness statements, Timothy Green was arrested and subsequently charged with second-degree murder, unlawful use of a weapon, and armed criminal action. Prosecutors requested a bond of $250,000. Following the legal process, a Jackson County jury convicted Green on the charges of Murder in the Second Degree, Unlawful Use of a Weapon, and two counts of Armed Criminal Action. His sentencing was scheduled to take place on June 28 of the following year.
