On the night of September 5, 2022, a large Labor Day gathering in the Park Farms neighborhood of South Kansas City, Missouri, turned into a chaotic crime scene following a sudden outbreak of violence. Police officers were dispatched around 10:45 p.m. to a residence in the 7300 block of Manchester Avenue after receiving reports of a shooting. Upon arrival, first responders discovered a scene of devastation where four individuals had been struck by gunfire during what witnesses described as a
crowded house party. Deshawn Dudley, a 26-year-old Black male, was found suffering from gunshot wounds and was pronounced deceased at the scene alongside another victim, 20-year-old Dondre Hart.
The investigation revealed that the attack appeared to be an ambush carried out by at least two unidentified individuals. According to witness statements and court records, the shooters positioned themselves in the backyard of a neighboring property, where they reportedly stood on chairs to peer over a tall wooden privacy fence that surrounded the party. From this vantage point, they fired multiple rounds into the unsuspecting crowd before fleeing the area. Detectives later recovered shell casings and other evidence indicating the shots were fired from outside the gathering's perimeter.
Despite the presence of numerous witnesses and security guards hired for the event, investigators faced challenges in identifying the perpetrators. The property, which was owned by a company called City Living KC LLC, had been the subject of prior neighborhood complaints regarding its use as an improperly zoned event space. In the days following the double homicide, authorities executed a search warrant at the home to collect surveillance footage and other potential leads. However, despite the recovery of evidence and the public appeal for tips, no suspects were immediately taken into custody. The case was subsequently listed among the Kansas City Police Department's unsolved homicides, with detectives continuing to seek information regarding the identities of the shooters involved in the deadly ambush.
