In the late summer of 2016, a morning of violence in Jackson, Mississippi, claimed the life of Rodney L. Beck. A 50-year-old Black male, Beck was fatally wounded on August 23rd of that year. The sequence of events that day suggests a sudden and desperate attempt to escape his attacker. After being shot once in the arm, Beck managed to get into his vehicle and drive away from the scene of the assault.
His flight for life was tragically short-lived.
About half a mile from where the shooting occurred, his car crashed into a playground. The impact brought a violent end to his attempted escape and his life. When emergency services arrived, it was too late to save him. The authorities, including Commander Tyree Jones of the Jackson Police Department, began their investigation into the city's 44th homicide of the year.
Despite the public nature of the crime's conclusion—a car crashing into a children's play area—the investigation that followed has been quiet. To date, there has been no publicly released information regarding any suspects or arrests in connection with the murder of Rodney Beck. The circumstances that led to the single gunshot remain unclear, and the person or persons responsible have not been brought to justice.
