On September 21, 2022, a domestic tragedy unfolded in Northwoods, a suburb of St. Louis, Missouri, resulting in the death of 50-year-old Christy Martin. Officers from the Northwoods Police Department were dispatched to a residence on the 4500 block of Edgewood Boulevard shortly before 11:00 a.m. regarding a reported shooting. Upon their arrival, authorities discovered the female victim inside the home, suffering from a single gunshot wound to the chest.
She was pronounced dead at the scene.
The investigation revealed that the violence stemmed from a dispute between Martin and her 22-year-old son, Tony Martin Jr. According to the probable cause statement, the mother and son were in the midst of putting away groceries when an argument began. The situation escalated when Martin allegedly touched her son's arm in an attempt to get him to turn around. In response, Tony Martin Jr., who had been carrying a firearm around the house, turned and fired a shot, striking his mother.
Police recovered significant evidence at the scene, including a 9mm Glock handgun, one shell casing, and a projectile. Tony Martin Jr. was taken into custody following the incident. The St. Louis County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office subsequently charged him with second-degree murder and armed criminal action. He was ordered held at the St. Louis County Justice Center on a $250,000 cash-only bond.
