On December 21, 2022, a tragic shooting incident claimed the life of 18-year-old Shavon Key in Kansas City, Missouri. The events unfolded that Wednesday afternoon at an apartment complex located in the 8000 block of North Denver Avenue, situated in the Northland area of the city. Police were dispatched to the scene around 3:00 p.m. following reports of a shooting inside one of the residences. Upon their arrival, officers discovered the young woman in a bedroom, suffering from a critical gunshot wound to her abdomen.

Emergency responders quickly transported the victim to a nearby hospital for urgent medical treatment, but despite their efforts, she succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced dead later that same day. Investigators at the scene detained a person of interest who was present during the incident. This individual was later identified as 19-year-old Ibrahim Abdi. According to court records filed in Clay County, Abdi provided an account to detectives stating that the shooting was accidental.

He reportedly told authorities that he was handling a rifle in the bedroom and believed the weapon was unloaded because the clip had been removed.
