On the night of July 10, 2023, Kansas City police responded to a residence near East 26th Street and Lawn Avenue following reports of a shooting. Upon arrival, officers discovered 18-year-old Samaya Nevaeh Lurks inside the home, suffering from gunshot wounds. Emergency medical personnel pronounced her dead at the scene.
