Albert Byers, who served as the Town Marshal of Diamond-town, Indiana, tragically lost his life on April 9, 1905. Byers, aged 40, was shot and killed during an altercation with a local saloonkeeper. The incident occurred as a result of Byers' enforcement of local gambling laws, which had led to several threats against him.
