James M. "Tiny" McCrory, a 51-year-old engineer from Niles, Michigan, was tragically murdered on April 5, 1976, while working in the Elkhart, Indiana rail yards. McCrory was shot in the head with a deer slug from a 20-gauge shotgun as he sat in the cab of his locomotive, which was parked near the diesel house. This brutal killing was part of a series of murders targeting railway employees in the Rust Belt region during the 1960s and 1970s.
