On the evening of January 15, 1998, in Gary, Indiana, a 27-year-old male police detective named Dorian David Rorex was shot and killed. Detective Rorex, a United States Marine veteran who had been in law enforcement for six years, was on duty with two other plainclothes detectives responding to complaints of drug activity.
