In the winter of 2001, the world of jazz lost a towering figure, James Louis 'J.J.' Johnson, a man whose profound influence on the trombone echoed through the halls of music history. On Sunday, February 4th, at the age of 77, the Indianapolis native's life came to a quiet and somber end in his hometown. Reports from the Marion County Sheriff's Department confirmed that Johnson's death was a suicide.
