On October 31, 2024, a fatal shooting occurred on the far east side of Indianapolis, resulting in the death of 17-year-old Dashawn Anthony Gilbert. The incident took place in the 11500 block of Brook Crossing Lane, near East 21st Street and North Cumberland Road. Officers from the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department (IMPD) responded to the scene shortly after 7:30 p.m. following a report of a person shot.
