In the summer of 2006, the life of 21-year-old Daniel Spencer White was tragically cut short in a remote cornfield in Bowman, Indiana. On the evening of July 17th, he, along with his 18-year-old brother Cameron, 18-year-old Keela Leigh Lynch, and 17-year-old Rebekah Danelle 'Bekah' Acorn, were led to the isolated location by a man they knew, 23-year-old Nicholas Harbison.
Harbison had lured the group with a story about discovering marijuana plants he intended to harvest.
Once in the secluded field, the evening took a horrific turn. Harbison opened fire on the group, fatally shooting Daniel White, Keela Lynch, and Rebekah Acorn. Daniel's brother, Cameron, was also shot and stabbed multiple times. Despite his grievous injuries, Cameron White managed to survive the brutal attack. In a desperate act of survival, he crawled to his deceased brother's body to retrieve a cell phone and call for help, an action that ultimately saved his life and quickly identified Harbison as the assailant.
The motive for the senseless violence was believed by authorities to be a dispute between Harbison and the White brothers concerning a girl. Following the murders, Harbison fled, sparking a 14-day nationwide manhunt. He was accompanied by his girlfriend, Misty Davis, and his stepmother. The search came to an end when Harbison surrendered to police in Gibson County.
In the aftermath, Nicholas Harbison was charged with three counts of murder and one count of attempted murder. The Pike County prosecutor announced his intention to seek the death penalty for the heinous crimes. Harbison's girlfriend, Misty Davis, and his stepmother faced charges of assisting a criminal and false informing for their roles in helping him evade capture. Ultimately, to avoid a trial and a potential death sentence, Nicholas Harbison entered into a plea agreement. He pleaded guilty to the murders and was sentenced to life in prison plus an additional 50 years, ensuring he would spend the remainder of his life behind bars for the devastating loss of three young lives.
