In the spring of 2014, a tragedy unfolded in Fort Wayne, Indiana, that cut short the life of a local business owner. Antonio Lopez Nino, a 44-year-old male, was killed on a Monday morning in April at his business, The Smoke House Tobacco Outlet, located on South Lafayette Street. The initial call brought police to a scene where they found Nino in critical condition, and a subsequent review of surveillance footage revealed the harrowing final moments of his life.
The investigation into
the death of Antonio Lopez Nino quickly identified a suspect through tips from the public, including members of the suspect's own family. This led to the arrest of Jamel C. Coleman, who was 22 or 23 years old at the time. Court documents revealed that Coleman had entered The Smoke House with the intention of robbing Nino. A struggle ensued between the two men, during which Coleman used Nino's own gun to fatally shoot him.
In January of the following year, Jamel C. Coleman pleaded guilty to charges of murder and robbery. By pleading guilty, he avoided a trial that was scheduled to begin the following week. In February 2015, Coleman was sentenced for his role in the death of Antonio Lopez Nino. He received a 60-year prison sentence for the murder and robbery that took place at the tobacco shop, bringing a legal conclusion to a violent act that had taken a man's life.
