In the late summer of 2014, the life of 51-year-old Tony Shead of South Bend, Indiana, was tragically cut short. On the evening of Sunday, September 14, 2014, Shead was shot on Calvert Street. He was rushed to Memorial Hospital, but ultimately succumbed to his injuries and departed this life.
Tony, a beloved husband, father, and grandfather, was known as a dedicated and hardworking man. For nearly three decades, he was a maintenance mechanic at Saint Joseph Regional Medical Center.
His family and friends remembered him as a genuinely kind person who enjoyed detailing cars, riding his motorcycle, and barbecuing for his loved ones. He was a man of faith and a member of New Generation Christian Ministries.
The investigation into his death led authorities to a suspect, 24-year-old Erique Raggs. He was accused of shooting not only Tony Shead but also a woman named Dorothy Tyler on that same fateful day. Raggs was apprehended in Cook County, Illinois, on October 21, 2014. After waiving extradition, he was brought back to St. Joseph County to face the consequences of his alleged actions. He was subsequently charged with one count of murder for the death of Tony Shead, one count of attempted murder, and one count of aggravated battery.
