In the autumn of 2014, a tragic incident in Kokomo, Indiana, led to the death of nine-month-old Jacob Ryan Hambaugh. The male infant passed away on or around October 23, 2014, after sustaining a gunshot wound to the head.
The circumstances surrounding the young boy's death were determined to be accidental. On that fateful day, Jacob's father, John W. Hambaugh III, was in the kitchen of their home cleaning a loaded handgun. The weapon discharged, and the bullet struck John Hambaugh in the thigh before tragically hitting his infant son in the head.
Following the incident, Jacob was rushed to Riley Hospital for Children in Indianapolis. Despite medical efforts, he succumbed to his injuries. Law enforcement officials investigated the shooting and deemed it an accident. Consequently, no arrests were made, and no charges were filed against John Hambaugh in connection with the death of his son. The case was not pursued as a criminal matter, and therefore, there were no suspects or subsequent litigation reported.
