In the early morning hours of October 23, 2021, the life of 27-year-old Harvey Lenoir Jr. was tragically cut short in Kokomo, Indiana. Known affectionately as 'Luh Pokey' to his loved ones, Harvey was a Black/African American male with a reputation for being an outgoing and funny individual who could light up a room. A graduate of Kokomo High School, he had furthered his education at Vincennes University, earning a degree in Fire Science, and had also served his country in the U.S.
Army starting in 2016.
On that fateful morning, events escalated in the 900 block of West Monroe Street, where a physical fight preceded a deadly altercation. Harvey was discovered with a gunshot wound to his neck. Despite being rushed to a nearby hospital, his injuries proved fatal, and he was pronounced dead shortly after arrival. The community was left reeling from the violent loss of a man described as a dedicated family man and a beloved figure.
The Kokomo Police Department quickly launched an investigation into the shooting. Their efforts led to the arrest of 26-year-old Mycah Fowler in connection with Harvey's death. Fowler was initially charged with voluntary manslaughter and reckless homicide. However, in a later development in January 2022, these serious charges were dropped. Fowler still faced a criminal recklessness count related to the incident, and the investigation into the shooting remained active as police encouraged anyone with more information to come forward. The tragic event left a significant void in the lives of his family and friends, who continue to remember his vibrant spirit and the positive impact he had on those around him.
