In the summer of 2015, the life of 33-year-old Kevin Miller was tragically cut short in East Chicago, Indiana. On the evening of July 1st, Miller was discovered in the front passenger seat of his white Pontiac Grand Prix, having suffered from multiple gunshot wounds. The vehicle was located near St. Mary's Church, where the sound of gunfire had pierced the night, prompting witnesses to report seeing a man in a black hooded sweatshirt fleeing from the area.
The investigation into Miller's
death uncovered a history of personal conflict. In the time leading up to the shooting, Miller had contacted the East Chicago police to report a burglary at his apartment. He voiced his suspicions, naming his ex-girlfriend's nephew, Cadarrow Patten-White, as the likely perpetrator. In a chilling voicemail left for the police, Miller expressed a genuine fear for his life, stating that he had been threatened by this same individual. The situation escalated on the day of the murder when Miller confronted his ex-girlfriend about the break-in, further inflaming the already tense relationship.
Following the investigation, 21-year-old Cadarrow Patten-White was charged with the murder of Kevin Miller. According to court documents, Patten-White's aunt, Miller's ex-girlfriend, had informed him of threatening messages she had received from Miller. Despite her reported pleas for him to not harm Miller, Patten-White allegedly decided to take matters into his own hands. Witness accounts described seeing Patten-White firing shots at Miller's car before making his escape. It was later reported that Patten-White returned to his aunt's residence after the shooting, smelling of gunpowder and admitting to his involvement in the fatal encounter.
