In the winter of 2016, a tragedy unfolded in the town of Schererville, Indiana, cutting short the life of Alessandra De Moraes-Emiliano, a 37-year-old woman. On the afternoon of Saturday, January 2nd, De Moraes-Emiliano was at her workplace, a local gift shop, when her life was abruptly and violently ended. She sustained a fatal gunshot wound and was pronounced dead at the scene.
The incident left the community in shock and searching for answers.
Authorities quickly identified a suspect in the shooting: Richard Kalecki Jr., the 49-year-old ex-husband of De Moraes-Emiliano. Law enforcement officials reported that surveillance footage from the business captured the commission of the crime. Following the incident, a nationwide alert was issued for Kalecki, who had fled the scene in a red Toyota Corolla. The search for him was extensive, involving numerous detectives from various police departments in northwest Indiana who worked tirelessly through the night.
