In the early evening of January 5, 2016, the city of Fort Wayne recorded its first homicide of the year with the death of 26-year-old Deandrew Jamarcus Moore. A male, Moore was discovered fatally shot inside a vehicle in the 6000 block of Bunt Drive, near the Paulding Road Family Dollar. The engine of the car was still running when police arrived at the scene, parked in front of an apartment building.
Emergency responders were called to the location shortly after 6 p.m.
following a report of a shooting. Upon their arrival, they found Moore in the driver's seat of the car. He was pronounced dead at the scene. The Allen County Coroner's Office later confirmed that his death was a homicide caused by a gunshot wound.
At the time of the incident, witnesses reported seeing a Black man with dreadlocks running from the area, providing investigators with an initial description of a possible person of interest.
