In Fort Wayne, Indiana, a young man’s life was cut short on Tuesday, January 14, 2020. Diquan Q. Meriwether, a 19-year-old male, died from a gunshot wound to the heart. The events leading to his death began with an argument with a close friend, Kennisha J. Jackson.
On that January day, Meriwether was at Jackson's house where the two were frequently together. An argument started while Jackson was inside her home and Meriwether was on the porch.
The situation escalated when Meriwether opened the screen door, and Jackson pulled at the hoodie he was wearing. Both then went inside the house. A friend of Meriwether's, Patinque Robinson, was waiting in his car outside and witnessed the beginning of the argument.
A few minutes after they went inside, Robinson heard a single gunshot. Meriwether then came out of the house without a shirt and clutching his chest. Jackson was seen at her front door holding a gun as Meriwether tried to get to Robinson's car before collapsing. Robinson helped Meriwether into the car and drove off. Before heading to the hospital, Robinson made a stop at a friend's house to drop off some marijuana. After this delay, he called 911. By the time first responders reached Meriwether, he had only a weak pulse and was cold to the touch. He was pronounced dead at the hospital.
Kennisha Jackson was arrested and charged with the murder of Diquan Meriwether. After a series of three jury trials, she was ultimately convicted of his murder.
