The body of 40-year-old African American Marlon Lee Kimbrough was discovered on the morning of January 7, 2020, in Fort Wayne, Indiana. Railroad workers found the deceased male lying on the tracks near the intersection of Meyer Road and Oxford Street. Police were dispatched to the scene around 9:05 a.m., where they located Kimbrough’s remains. The area was quickly cordoned off as crime scene technicians and homicide detectives began their investigation into what was recorded as the city’s
first homicide of the new year.
Investigators determined that Kimbrough, a resident of Indianapolis who had ties to the Fort Wayne area, had died from gunshot wounds. The remote location on the railroad tracks suggested he had been targeted, though specific motives were not immediately released to the public. In the months following the grim discovery, detectives worked to piece together Kimbrough's final movements and identify potential persons of interest.
By late April 2020, authorities announced a breakthrough in the case. A murder warrant was issued for 28-year-old Sedrick Williams. At the time the warrant was announced, Williams was already in custody; he had been arrested in mid-January, shortly after Kimbrough's death, on an unrelated parole violation. The United States Marshals Service had apprehended him, and he had remained detained while the homicide investigation proceeded. Upon the issuance of the new warrant, Williams was formally charged with the murder of Marlon Kimbrough.
The legal proceedings against Williams extended over several years and took a complex turn. Despite the serious nature of the 2020 charges, Williams was eventually released from custody. In October 2023, he was arrested again in connection with a separate homicide involving a female victim, Vanessa Brabson, whose body was found in a vacant lot near Bloomingdale Park. Following a trial in late 2024 for this subsequent crime, Williams was found guilty of murder.
