In the early morning hours of December 16, 2021, the life of 24-year-old Tyler Ondersma was tragically cut short in Fort Wayne, Indiana. A White male, Ondersma was sitting on his porch at 1616 Howell Street when he was struck by multiple gunshots. Despite his severe injuries, he managed to make a desperate call to 911 at approximately 12:20 a.m., reporting that he had been shot.
After the shooting, Ondersma moved from his porch to a nearby home on Richardson Street, where emergency
responders found him. Medics provided immediate aid and transported him to a local hospital. Tragically, his injuries proved to be too severe, and he succumbed to them at the hospital. The Allen County Coroner's Office later confirmed that the cause of his death was multiple gunshot wounds and officially ruled it a homicide. This marked the 45th homicide in Fort Wayne and Allen County for the year 2021.
The Fort Wayne Police Department launched an investigation into the shooting. In an effort to gather more information, they publicly released a video that possibly features a suspect connected to the case and have asked for the community's help in identifying the individual. As of the most recent updates, no arrests have been made in connection with Tyler Ondersma's murder, and the investigation remains ongoing. The motive behind the shooting has not been disclosed by authorities. His family and friends remember him for his kindness and generosity.
