In the a quiet neighborhood of Fort Wayne, Indiana, a grim discovery was made on February 24, 2016, that sent shockwaves through the community. Three young men of East African descent, Mohamedtaha Omar, 23, Adam Kamel Mekki, 20, and Muhannad Adam Tairab, 17, were found deceased inside a home on East Lewis Street. The residence was known in the area as a 'party house' frequented by young people, often without adult supervision.
The victims had been shot multiple times in what authorities described as an 'execution-style' slaying.
The initial investigation into the triple homicide left police searching for answers, as there was no immediate indication of a motive. Law enforcement officials were quick to state that they did not believe the killings were a hate crime, based on the victims' religion or nationality, despite the fact that they were Muslim.
