In the autumn of 2016, a story of love, jealousy, and violence unfolded in Goshen, Indiana, culminating in the tragic death of 41-year-old Mark Alan Huber. A resident of Goshen, though originally from the Cleveland, Ohio area, Huber was a man whose life was abruptly cut short.
On the morning of November 22, 2016, Mark Huber was dropped off for work at the corner of Kercher and Dierdorff roads by his girlfriend, Tifanee Burrows.
When she returned to pick him up that afternoon, his coworkers informed her that he had never arrived. A sense of unease set in, and Burrows filed a missing person report with the Goshen Police Department. For three days, Huber’s whereabouts remained a mystery.
The search came to a grim end on November 25, when an employee of the Kingsbury Utility Corporation, performing a routine weekly check, discovered a body in a sewer line at the Kingsbury Fish and Wildlife Area. The remains were later identified as those of Mark Huber. An autopsy would reveal that he had died from a gunshot wound to the head, and his death was officially ruled a homicide.
Investigators quickly pieced together the events leading to Huber's death. They determined that he had been killed near the location where he was last seen and his body was then transported to the wildlife area. The investigation soon focused on 41-year-old Scotty Irvin of Elkhart. It was discovered that Huber was in a relationship with Tifanee Burrows, who was Irvin's estranged wife, providing a potential motive for the crime.
Scotty Irvin was arrested and charged with murder. In November 2017, he faced a bench trial, where a judge, rather than a jury, would decide his fate. In February 2018, Irvin was found guilty of the murder of Mark Huber. He was subsequently sentenced to 64 years in prison for his crime.
