In March of 2020, in Goshen, Indiana, a visit to a sister's apartment turned into a fatal encounter for 26-year-old Jordan Garcia. On that fateful day, Garcia, accompanied by another man, went to an apartment on South 9th Street. At the door, they were met by Reynaldo Marin, who was the boyfriend of the sister they had come to see. In a swift and violent turn of events, Marin opened the door with a gun in his hand and fired several shots.
The shooting resulted in the death of Jordan
Garcia. The man who was with Garcia at the time of the incident told investigators that their intention was simply to visit his sister. Marin, however, presented a different narrative to the authorities, claiming he acted in self-defense. He stated that he saw a man in a hoodie when he opened the door and found it 'creepy.' According to Marin, he attempted to close the door, but the other man tried to pull it back open, which prompted him to start firing.
Following an investigation into the shooting, Reynaldo Marin, who was 22 years old at the time, was arrested. He eventually pleaded guilty to a charge of reckless homicide in connection with Jordan Garcia's death. For this, Marin was sentenced to three years in prison, to be followed by three years of probation.
The outcome of the legal proceedings was met with frustration and disappointment by Garcia's family. His father publicly expressed his belief that the investigation was flawed and that Marin had not been truthful in his account to the court. The family felt that a charge of murder would have been more appropriate given the circumstances of their loved one's death. Jordan Lee Garcia was born on January 17, 1994, in Goshen and worked as a saw operator at Foamcraft in the same city. He died on Tuesday, March 3, 2020, at Goshen Hospital.
