In the early morning hours of December 8, 2016, the life of 33-year-old Lindsey Anne Wilkins was cut tragically short in her Anderson, Indiana home. Initially, her death was reported as a suicide by her fiancé, 23-year-old Aaron Toller, who made the initial call to authorities. Wilkins was discovered with a gunshot wound to her temple in her bedroom, while her 8-year-old daughter was asleep in another room.
However, inconsistencies in the scene quickly led investigators to suspect foul
play. A crucial piece of evidence that contradicted the suicide theory was the absence of the firearm at the scene. Toller initially claimed to have hidden two guns after finding her body, fearing a probation violation. As the investigation progressed, his story shifted, and he began to suggest that another person had murdered Wilkins. This change in his account, coupled with what authorities deemed a lack of truthfulness during a polygraph test, solidified him as the primary suspect.
The investigation revealed a tumultuous relationship between Wilkins and Toller. It was discovered that Toller was involved with another woman, a motive that prosecutors believed led to Wilkins' murder. Despite no signs of sexual assault, evidence of a struggle was present in the bedroom where her body was found. Ultimately, Aaron Toller was arrested and charged with the murder of Lindsey Wilkins. After a two-year legal process, he was convicted on seven counts, including murder, neglect of a dependent, and obstruction of justice. On September 10, 2018, Toller was sentenced to a maximum of 70.5 years in prison for his crimes.
