In the summer of 2018, the life of 39-year-old Trinity Parker of Anderson, Indiana, came to a tragic and violent end. Her body was discovered on August 14, 2018, inside an abandoned house in rural Grant County. An autopsy would later confirm that Parker had died from two gunshot wounds to the back of her head. Her death was connected to the murder of another Anderson resident, 36-year-old David Lamar Phillips II, whose body was found just a day earlier in a nature preserve in Madison County.
Authorities quickly determined the two slayings were linked.
The investigation into the double homicide led to a number of arrests. Court documents revealed a grim motive behind the killings, suggesting they were related to drug activity. An individual identified as Daniel Lee Jones Sr., then 38, was charged with two counts of murder and criminal confinement in the deaths of both Parker and Phillips. According to statements from one of the other individuals charged, Jones killed Parker because he believed she was a 'snitch'.
In the ensuing legal proceedings, Daniel Jones pleaded guilty and received two 60-year sentences for the murders, resulting in a total of 120 years in prison. Several other individuals faced charges for their roles in the events surrounding the murders. David Roberts pleaded guilty to voluntary manslaughter and was sentenced to 20 years. Brittney Vontress-Cox entered a guilty plea for kidnapping and received a 12-year sentence. Jordan Zirkle and Taylor Wheeler were also charged in connection with the case, with Wheeler pleading guilty to assisting a criminal.
