In the summer of 2017, the life of 24-year-old Brooke Nichole Day was tragically cut short in her Logansport, Indiana, home. A 2012 graduate of Pioneer High School, she was a mother to two young children, a daughter, and a sister. Those who knew her remembered her as a person who warmed the hearts of everyone she met and was deeply loved by her family and friends.
On the evening of Saturday, August 5, 2017, a man named David Rush, age 41, forcibly entered Brooke's residence. At the time, Brooke was at home with a toddler. Inside the home, Rush shot Brooke multiple times before turning the gun on himself. Their bodies were discovered the following day.
Investigators determined that the deaths were the result of a murder-suicide.
It is believed that Rush and Day had been in a relationship for approximately seven months, but that the relationship had ended in the two months prior to the incident. Because the perpetrator took his own life, there were no arrests or subsequent legal proceedings in this case. The community was left to mourn the loss of a young mother in a senseless act of domestic violence.
