On a cold January night in Evansville, Indiana, the life of 25-year-old Delvin Devante Mitchell was tragically cut short. Upon their arrival, they discovered Mitchell inside a vehicle, having sustained fatal gunshot wounds to the head. The investigation into the male victim's death revealed the incident was connected to a drug transaction. The man identified as the shooter was Justin Robert Brewer, who, along with his wife Amber Brewer, had arranged to purchase marijuana from Mitchell. During the transaction inside Mitchell's car, Justin Brewer brandished a handgun. His wife, Amber, fled the vehicle just before hearing gunshots. After the shooting, the Brewers fled the scene together.
Following the murder, Justin and Amber Brewer fled to Georgia, where they were eventually apprehended by authorities. A crucial piece of evidence, the murder weapon, was later recovered from Pigeon Creek in Evansville by an FBI dive team. Amber Brewer cooperated with prosecutors and testified against her husband. Justin Brewer was charged with murder. After a trial, he was found guilty and sentenced to 85 years in prison, a sentence that was enhanced due to his status as a habitual offender and the use of a firearm in the commission of the crime. Amber Brewer pleaded guilty to a lesser charge of assisting a criminal and was sentenced to time served.
