In the spring of 2021, the life of 19-year-old Kielyn Toone was cut tragically short in Evansville, Indiana. On the evening of Saturday, April 17, Toone was fatally wounded by a gunshot to the head. The incident unfolded in a chaotic scene that stemmed from a birthday party in the 300 block of Taylor Avenue.
Following the shooting, law enforcement officers discovered Toone inside an SUV that had crashed through a fence and struck two houses in the 1400 and 1500 blocks of Judson Street.
He was rushed to Deaconess Midtown Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries at 5:21 p.m. Investigators at the scene of the shooting recovered more than 50 shell casings, indicating that at least three different firearms were involved in the altercation that led to the young man's death.
Kielyn, born on March 23, 2002, was a recent graduate of Bosse High School's class of 2020. He was known for his love of football, racing dirt bikes, and music. Those who knew him described him as someone who enjoyed making people laugh. He had been an employee at Dairy Queen during his high school years.
In the immediate aftermath of the shooting, the Evansville Police Department appealed to the public for any information that could lead to the identification of a suspect or suspects. However, despite the violent nature of the crime and the numerous rounds fired, no arrests have been publicly announced in connection with the death of Kielyn Toone. The investigation into his murder remains ongoing, leaving his family and community searching for answers and justice.
