David Anthony Macke, a 68-year-old Caucasian male, was a beloved father, grandfather, brother, and friend to many in the Evansville, Indiana community. A 1972 graduate of Mater Dei High School, he was a retired ironworker from Local 103. Known for his free spirit and friendly nature, he was always ready with a smile and a helping hand. His life, however, was tragically cut short on March 24, 2022, when he became a victim of gun violence.
On that day, police responded to a call of shots
fired at a residence on North Saint Joseph Avenue in Evansville. Inside, they discovered the bodies of David Macke and 31-year-old Kara Frederick. Both had been fatally shot in what was determined to be a double homicide. The news of his violent death sent shockwaves through the community, leaving his family and friends to mourn the sudden and senseless loss.
The investigation quickly led authorities to identify 30-year-old Samuel Aaron Robb as the suspect in the double homicide. When police located Robb in Corydon, Indiana, and attempted to apprehend him, he fled, initiating a brief police pursuit. The chase ended when Robb's vehicle crashed. As officers approached, they found that Robb had died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound sustained during the pursuit. His death concluded the search for the man responsible for the deaths of David Macke and Kara Frederick.
