James 'Jimmy' Allen Winters Jr., a 31-year-old White/Caucasian male, was a man known for his big heart and his love for working on cars. On July 10, 2019, his life was tragically cut short in Jeffersonville, Indiana, at his place of employment, a Big O Tires store. The events that led to his death began with an altercation earlier in the day with his co-worker, Bobby Powell.
The dispute escalated, culminating in a fatal encounter.
According to reports, the conflict between Winters and Powell reached a breaking point, and in what was described as a moment of 'sudden heat,' Powell shot Winters. At the time of the shooting, Winters was reportedly unarmed and running towards Powell. In the aftermath of the shooting, 20-year-old Bobby Powell was arrested and initially faced a murder charge. However, the legal proceedings took a different turn as the details of the altercation came to light. The charge was later amended, and Powell pleaded guilty to voluntary manslaughter and carrying a handgun without a license within 500 feet of a school. In March 2021, a judge sentenced Powell to 17 and a half years in prison, with all but 10 years of the sentence suspended. The court also mandated that he be placed on strict probation for the remainder of his sentence following his release.
