On the evening of July 8, 2019, in Jeffersonville, Indiana, 35-year-old Elite Marlee Elliott was fatally shot at the Greenwood Apartments near Spring Street, marking the city's first homicide of the year. Two other individuals were also injured in the shooting and subsequently hospitalized. According to his family, Elliott was an innocent bystander who found himself in the wrong place at the wrong time.
Elliott's father, Oscar Elliott, recounted that his son had been playing cards with
the other victims when an argument broke out. This dispute, in which his son was not involved, escalated tragically, leading to the shooting. Described by his family as a highly intelligent man, Elliott was an avid chess player and enjoyed reading.
In the immediate aftermath of the shooting, Jeffersonville police had not identified any suspects. Detectives were actively working the case, with the assistance of the Indiana State Police due to the extensive crime scene. Authorities appealed to the public for any information that might lead to an arrest, encouraging individuals to contact their anonymous tip line.
