In the early morning hours of July 23, 2021, the quiet Oak Park neighborhood in Jeffersonville, Indiana, was disturbed by a grim discovery. A person driving along Wildwood Drive noticed a man lying face down in a yard and promptly alerted the authorities. When officers from the Jeffersonville Police Department arrived at the scene near the intersection of Edgewood Lane and Wildwood Road, they found the body of 29-year-old Rodrick Wallace.
An autopsy would later confirm that Wallace, a male originally from Wisconsin but living in Clarksville, had died from multiple gunshot wounds to the head.
Investigators quickly determined that Wallace had been killed at another location before his body was left in the residential neighborhood. The investigation led them to a nearby apartment complex parking lot in Jeffersonville, which they believe was the actual scene of the crime. Evidence suggested a violent struggle had taken place inside Wallace's own car, which was later discovered in Louisville, stained with his blood. Detectives learned that Wallace was believed to have had several guns and had recently acquired two pounds of marijuana, none of which was ever found. The police chief reassured the concerned community that this was an isolated incident, potentially tied to drugs, and that there was no broader danger to the residents.
Through an examination of the victim's phone records, detectives identified a suspect: Christopher Tandy, a 41-year-old from North Carolina. It was discovered that Tandy already had several outstanding warrants in his home state, including one for attempted murder. Jeffersonville Police coordinated with the Asheville Police Department in North Carolina, leading to Tandy's arrest. He was subsequently charged with the murder of Rodrick Wallace.
After his arrest, Christopher Tandy remained in custody in North Carolina for three years before facing a judge in Indiana in June 2024. Following the legal proceedings, Tandy, then 44, was convicted of the murder. In December 2024, he was sentenced to serve 65 years in prison for the killing of Rodrick Wallace.
