In the autumn of 2019, the life of 22-year-old Lamont Andrew Day Jr., a male resident of Indianapolis, Indiana, was tragically cut short. On October 7, 2019, Day became a victim in a double homicide that unfolded at the Southport Crossing Apartments on the south side of the city. The incident, which also resulted in the death of 24-year-old Gary Miller II, prompted a thorough and lengthy investigation by the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department.
The investigation into the double
homicide stretched over three years, involving numerous investigative techniques, including the execution of search warrants and the gathering of witness testimonies. According to court documents, the events of that fatal day were precipitated by an attempted robbery. Craig Chambers, who was 25 at the time he was charged, was accused of attempting to rob Miller of marijuana. During the ensuing struggle, both Miller and Day were shot and killed. Chambers himself sustained a gunshot wound to the leg. Witnesses at the apartment complex reported hearing gunshots and seeing a man running for help before collapsing. Chambers was eventually arrested and faced multiple serious charges, including three counts of murder and two counts of robbery resulting in serious bodily injury.
In a later development, the case against Chambers concluded with a plea deal. The murder charges were dismissed, and he was ultimately sentenced on two counts of reckless homicide. He received two three-year sentences to be served consecutively, one for each victim.
