In the early morning hours of January 12, 2020, the life of 24-year-old Omari Dominique Kohn, a Black / African American male, was tragically cut short. Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department officers responded to a call for assistance just before 3:30 a.m. in the 5900 block of Bastille Lane, located in the Lafayette Villas neighborhood on the city's northwest side. Upon arrival, they discovered Omari Kohn suffering from apparent gunshot wounds.
Despite the efforts of emergency medical personnel who were called to the scene, he was pronounced deceased.
Originally from Benton Harbor, Michigan, Kohn was a 2013 graduate of Benton Harbor High School where he was active in band, JROTC, and track. Following his graduation, he served in the U.S. Navy before eventually settling in Indianapolis. He was remembered by friends and family as a goofy, fun, and loving individual who was polite and mannerable. His death was recorded as the 10th homicide in Indianapolis for the year 2020.
The investigation into Omari Kohn's murder was launched immediately by IMPD homicide detectives. However, in the days and years following his death, no information regarding any potential suspects has been publicly released. The case remains unsolved, and no arrests have been made in connection with his killing. Authorities have encouraged anyone with information to come forward as his family continues to seek justice.
