In the spring of 2020, the life of 19-year-old Rayshawn McIntosh was tragically cut short. On April 22, in Indianapolis, Indiana, McIntosh was found dead in the grass at a northwest-side apartment complex near 28th and Kessler, having been shot multiple times. This violent act plunged his family into a renewed state of grief, as it was the second time in less than two years that they had lost a son to gun violence.
The investigation into McIntosh's death moved swiftly.
Less than a month after the shooting, prosecutors brought charges against 19-year-old Kiante Rutledge for the murder of Rayshawn McIntosh. According to court records, detectives believe that McIntosh and Rutledge were engaged in an ongoing dispute, though the specific reasons for their conflict remain unknown. Rutledge was subsequently arrested and held without bond.
Rayshawn's death was a devastating echo of a previous family tragedy. In June 2018, his older brother, Delon Wilson-McIntosh, was also shot and killed. The circumstances of the two brothers' deaths were unrelated, and a different suspect was sought in the killing of Delon. For the McIntosh family, the loss of a second son to violence brought unimaginable pain.
