On the evening of July 5, 2020, which was also his 36th birthday, Kenneth Leon Whitman, a Caucasian male, was shot and killed in Elkhart, Indiana. The Elkhart Police Department received a call about a shooting with injuries at approximately 8:15 p.m. and dispatched officers to a residence at 1548 Laurelwood Drive. Upon their arrival, they discovered Mr. Whitman suffering from a gunshot wound.
Despite the efforts of emergency responders, he was pronounced dead at the scene.
Known affectionately as Kenny to his friends and family, he was a married father of four children: Mackenzie, Braxton, Peysyn, and Bella. He was described as having a wonderful personality, someone who enjoyed goofing around with his kids, fixing things, and had a passion for motorcycles. His family was his true love. He was a graduate of Jimtown High School and was survived by his wife, Stephanie, his parents, and a brother, among other relatives.
The Elkhart County Homicide Unit is actively investigating the shooting. To date, no arrests have been made in connection with Kenneth Whitman's death, and authorities have not publicly identified any suspects. Law enforcement officials have encouraged anyone with information regarding the incident to contact the Elkhart County Homicide Unit, the Elkhart police tip line, or to submit tips via email. While the investigation continues, the police have stated that they do not believe there is an immediate threat to the public.
